Good Mourning, Widows. Joy to you and me.

Today we welcome famous U.S. Senator and widow, Jean Carnahan, wife of famous U.S. Senator, Mel Eugene Carnahan.

Jean's husband, Mel, was born in January 1933 and died October 16, 2000.

Jean and Mel were married June 12, 1954. They had 4 children.

In 2000, Jean's husband and their son were killed in a plane crash 3 weeks before Election Day. Jean was appointed to fill the seat of her husband elected post-humously. She became the first woman in Missouri history to serve in the U.S. Senate.

Jean grew up in a working class neighborhood. Her father was a plumber and her mother a hairdresser. She worked her way through college.

Since the death of her husband, Jean served in the senate 2001-2002, is an activist and penned 4 books.

Mourning Joy:

Q: What do sheep do on sunny days?

A: Have a baa-baa-cue!

Mourning Quote:

"There is a time for departure even when there's no certain place to go." --Tennysee Williams

After we remember Him, fingerhug your pen. Write something. Go ahead. I dare you.

Have a joy-filled day, Widows. And remember, we're not alone.
